COURIER staffers do the twist

The COURIER’s space at The Colony at Loft 204 served as the photo booth backdrop for the gallery’s 1960s-themed event “MadMod Social.”

Photo courtesy of RD Foto Studio.Loving all things old-timey and the Mad Men TV series, I had to take this opportunity to show myself working for the COURIER, had I lived during the ‘60s. I have to say, the photos turned out rather well.

The setup included an Olympus typewriter, which belonged to the late Martin Weinberger, who purchased the COURIER in 1954 and enjoyed decades of being the newspapers publisher. The typewriter stand included a small table, which held a classic rotary phone. There were packs of candy cigarettes that were a big hit among the attendees, including COURIER reporters Sarah Torribio and Chris Oakley.

RD Foto Studio—photographers Rico J.C. and Diane Lynn—hosted the photo booth and set the scene with COURIER memorabilia and antiques. Partygoers also used props including their drinks and candy cigarettes to bring out their 1960s flare.

The 1960s vibe continues through the month as The Colony at Loft 204 celebrates Earth Day and a collection of vintage martini shakers and glasses are on display from the private collection of John Neiuber.

Featured artist Sumi Foley transforms abandoned kimonos into recycled fabric art. Ms. Foley learned her needlework techniques from her grandmother in Japan in the 1960s.

On Saturday, April 20 from noon to 4 p.m., the gallery and boutique will be hosting 45-minute Earth Day workshops, which begin on the hour and include a children’s book author, a poet, an HGTV landscaper and an archeologist.

COURIER swag including hoodies, mugs, prints and the current edition of the newspaper can be purchased at The Colony at Loft 204.

The Colony at Loft 204 is located at 532 W. First St. #204, upstairs in the Claremont Packing House. Visit www.loft204.com for more information.
